Give It Some Welly
This is perfect weather for wearing wellies if ever there was! The snow has been and the sub zero temperatures have made the roads and pavements treacherous in some parts. Apparently after the weather turned bad last week there was a massive rush on to buy wellies up and down the whole country and many places sold out. Hunter Wellingtons, being popular not just in winter time but also top choice for summer festival wear too, has apparently sold out in John Lewis stores and they're not expecting any more until January 2011.
The old faithful Wellington boot has come back into fashion in a big way in the past few years since Kate Moss was seen in her Hunter boots at a music festival looking pretty hot. Prior to this, Hunters had always been associated with the Queen who wears an olive green pair and with farmers and those who flounced around in the country with their wax jackets and four by fours.
Well these days everyone can have a four by four if they want (and a lot do) and there has definitely been a rise in the popularity of all things wax jackety like Barbour for instance. Recent pop-up stores in Spitalfields market in London has done so well it looks like it's staying for a while longer. Collaborations with famous designers too has seen Barbour shoot to the top of the must-have list, with limited editions from Anya Hindmarch and Alice Temperley which are proving very hot property indeed.
A great pair of Hunters and a classic Barbour jacket is the perfect combination of outdoor gear to face the cold winter weather we've been having and the fact that Hunters are now so fashionable you'll more than likely bump into plenty of other wellie-wearing people along the icy pavements on the way to work or school.
Though the original Scottish Hunter Wellington brand is viewed as the aristocracy of wellies, they are clearly a trend that's here to stay because there have been quite a few designer versions popping up here and there from the likes of Chloe with a patent blue finish and white lace-up pair, and Marc Jacobs quilted version as well as a collaboration between Hunter and Jimmy Choo with their own mock croc black quilted version which was famously sported by Colleen Rooney at the V festival this year. If designers are putting out their own versions of the wellington boot, you know its cool to be wearing them.
Not only do Hunter Wellies keep your feet warm and dry (that neoprene lining acts like central heating for your toes!), the fabulous colours that you can buy in this famous brand are second to none. Brighten your outfit and your day in a pair of sunshine yellow ones or post box red! You'll be sure to be seen on the dull grey days whilst walking through the slush or ice or even the freshly fallen snow and you'll be glad you wore them because they also provide much-needed traction on slippery surfaces that normal footwear doesn't always five you.
These days then, you can pull on your wellies to walk to school or work or even for a stroll in the park and be part of the ‘in' crowd who are proud to wear their Hunters and know they're going to get you to your destination safely, warmly and best of all looking great too! So bring on the snow, bring on the freezing temperatures, you'll be ready and waiting in your Hunters to make light work of the cold and wet and you won't be scared to go out and brave the elements because you're wearing the best Wellington boots around.
